The Band

TAKE COVER! was formed in the summer of 2012 when a group of musicians with a similar vision found each other on Craigslist.  We jammed a few times, discovered we had immediate chemistry, and decided it would selfish not to share with the world what we do.

Danielle Ulrich - Lead Vox, Percussion
Danielle hails from the great state of New Jersey where she was raised to love all things pop music. She came up through the musical theater tradition, playing everything from an evil queen to a mime. Making the transition to band singing hasn't always been easy (she still has no idea how to hook up her microphone - she used to have people who did that for her), but it has been a blast. Come out and see her awkward dance moves and sick tambourine skills sometime!

Patrick Bock - Lead Vox, Rhythm Guitar, Keys
Patrick has been playing in cover bands - including For the People, The Swiftkicks, and Punch Bully - since 2004. A fan of almost every musical genre, his voice is almost always a bit hoarse from singing in the car.  He currently runs his own company and is working on a few apps.  When not jamming, he likes to read, watch movies, and tutor.

Chris McNay - Lead Guitar
Chris got his start playing guitar in his LA high school jazz band. He moved on to playing venues on the Sunset strip with a six piece metal group. Since then, he has expanded his horizons by backing up Allie McNay (his twin sister) playing her original songs and pop covers. He relocated to the D.C. area in 2011 and his love for different types of music drove him to join Take Cover!

Steve Quam - Bass
Steve is one of those rare bassists that didn't start on guitar. He got his first electric bass in elementary school and before long was playing in rock bands with friends, playing upright bass in the school orchestras, and eventually went on to study jazz performance at the Hartt School of Music. Steve has performed and recorded with several original and cover bands playing everything from rock to live hip-hop to latin jazz and gospel. When he's not playing music he works as an engineer and enjoys running, cooking, and traveling.

Josh Kahn - Drums
Josh started playing drums at the age of 10. As a teen, he played with several rock and funk outfits and participated in his high school jazz band, symphonic band, and various musical productions. Josh went on to study classical percussion performance at Salisbury University. While at Salisbury he gained experience performing as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, symphony orchestra, opera and musical theater orchestras, big bands, and jazz combos. In recent years Josh has worked freelance as drummer playing funk, rock, jazz, blues, and pop, as a percussionist in pit orchestras, and as a bassist in a funk band. In addition to playing with Take Cover, Josh currently works at Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center and freelances as a drummer, percussionist, and teacher.
